Seriously, I write much better reviews when I take ten minutes out of my night to write notes as I go along. Otherwise, lack of sleep results in stuff that, while not awful, isn't nearly as good as it could be. Thank God the Hampton has free continental breakfast. Not for the food - for the coffee. I quite possibly would die during SXSW were it not for easy access to caffeine. There's a place on 6th Street that hand-rolls cigars and sells espresso, and is quite possibly the greatest smelling store in the entire universe. Coffee's good and cheap, too ( Read more... )

Anymore, it's getting harder and harder to work up the energy to go out. When you've got two opening bands, and the show doesn't start until 10:30pm, you might want to limit those bands to shorter sets. O'Phil didn't go on until 1am, and probably played a shorter set than the Bishops or Softie. Christ, I never figured O'Phil would ever play a reunion anywhere other than Kirby's, much less wrangle a show out of a band that's been defunct longer than they have.
